| Come On, Have a Taste!
There is only one day left to send your palate off to paradise, and Saturday is the ticket as the Taste of Vail continues with cooking, wine seminars and the Grand Tasting and Dance. The Taste hit turbo drive on Friday with the Mountaintop picnic, in which dozens of the valley’s most exquisite restaurants offered exotic and delicious dishes and wineries handed out samples of their most coveted reserves. The desserts topped the treat totem for us. Vail Gourmet Cookie CO. had plenty of people loitering around its baskets of mint chocolate shortbreads and caramel-injected brownies while Chap’s dished out mini limoncello custard cakes with blueberry compote. You’re drooling, aren’t you?The savory offerings ranged from fish tacos to Colby meatballs to brie soup with truffles. If any of this sounds appealing, here’s what’s left to taste on Saturday, April 14.9:30 to 11 a.m.: The Food Network’s Michael Chiarello demonstrates the art of Southern Italian Cuisine at the Lionshead Marriott12 to 1:30 p.m.: Spanish Wine Seminar discussion and tasting of Spain’s comeback into the world of indulgent grape beverages at the Lionshead Marriott.2:30 to 4 p.m.: Grape nuts will have a ball with this rare chance to taste eight vintages from Domaine Louis Latour at the Vertical Tasting; Lionshead Marriott.7 p.m.

LET'S DO GRENADA
Wow! What a food tour this has been. There have been some problems in many of the islands because of ICC rules and security regulations, so getting to and from restaurants at the venues during the day has not been promising. The nights, however, tend to be better. There is, so far, a lot of disappointment among the locals as to the extent of 'great business' this cricket was going to bring. But, it is after all, about cricket. What a game against Ireland last Friday! Sabina Park was in true form. It seems to me that it's in Jamaica that the stands are full with people certainly letting it all out, having a ball and really getting into the excitement. But we are now off to Grenada as cricket winds its way towards this Isle of Spice. The three-island state of Grenada (Carriacou & Petit Martinique included),with its picturesque capital and port St.
Travel plans uncork wine flights of fancy
Heed your Herder early warning: the new Pinot Gris is here. And don't say later that you weren't informed. Sometimes I get flak from readers: "Why do you write about wines that aren't available, that we can't seem to find?" It's usually because they've sold out in a flash, and by the time you get around to looking for them, there's nothing left, especially in the case of wineries with minuscule output. Wines are always available at the time I first talk about them, unless specifically stated. Sometimes I list them for the fact that they are outstanding and should have been recognized earlier. So hear this alarm and get it now, because the wine will all be gone in a few weeks: Herder Pinot Gris 2006, from Herder Winery & Vineyards near Keremeos, has just hit town in the customary limited amounts.
