| Adventures In Vegetarianism
In her editor's letter in the April issue of Gourmet magazine, Ruth Reichl announces the arrival of a new feature devoted to hearty vegetarian recipes. With more and more restaurants offering a variety of vegetarian and even vegan dishes on their menus, in combination with the growing concern for environmentally-friendly living, the appeal of fresh, locally-grown, seasonal vegetables and legumes is suddenly extremely important in the food world. I recently decided I had better give in to the trend and veg out. Okay, it wasn't a conscious decision - I was on my second date with the boyishly charming Mr. I'minlikewithyou and he invited me to dinner at his favorite vegan place in San Francisco, Millennium. He promised me it was haute vegan cuisine with not even the slightest hint of hippie and an atmosphere that was chic, sophisticated, and elegant; boy was he right.
Clarkson Students Partner with Scoopuccinos, St. Lawrence ...
Freshmen enrolled in Clarkson University's School of Business class in entrepreneurship have learned and applied the concept of "innovative adaptation" in the launch of their new business, Piece of Cake. Three months after their grand opening in Clarkson's Cheel Arena complex, Piece of Cake broke even from the sale of gourmet desserts, specialty coffees, teas and drinks, as well as other delectable sweets. The business is open during the evening hours and saw significant business during hockey games. The company has also developed an on-campus delivery service and delivers gift baskets on campus. Innovative product line; not necessarily, but the fact these students have partnered with local Potsdam businesses, including Scoopuccinos and the new St. Lawrence Chocolates, is a unique approach to the course requirement to launch a student-run business during their first year at Clarkson.

Times New Roman
(04-18) 17:33 PDT OAKLAND -- Zachary Runningwolf Brown, a leader of the Berkeley tree-sitters protesting development plans next to Memorial Stadium, appeared in court today with his new lawyer, famed criminal defense attorney Tony Serra. Brown, 44, faces a felony charge of resisting a police officer and a misdemeanor charge of making terrorist threats. The charges stem from a Feb. 23 incident at the oak grove next to the stadium when he allegedly threatened to shoot a UC police officer. Serra, whose previous clients include the Hells Angels and Huey Newton, is representing Brown pro bono. They spoke to reporters on the sidewalk today before their appearance in Alameda County Superior Court, where Serra is seeking to have the charges dropped. Another pre-trial conference was scheduled for May 30.
Cricket is hot but I miss Jamaica!
Yes! It has been great travelling around the islands looking for great places to eat for cricket. But it has been expensive. Jamaicans are very lucky. And right now, I am missing the land of the Blue Mountains so much, it's unreal. I want a breakfast at Dragon Lounge at Whitehouse, Montego Bay, so bad I can smell the aroma of the greatest liver with 'nuff' food smothered in the thickest gravy ever. I dream of going to Kingston and hittingMarket Place at least three days in a row - Habibi Latino, Jewel of India and East. As I write this, I could cry thinking of Sunday brunch at the Contemporary Art Gallery on Old Hope Road and a delightful evening meal at Norma's On The Terrace, Devon House. The pumpkin soup, escargot (both with her magnificent bread), oxtail taken up a notch. To top it all, my mouth waters for the crme caramel as dessert.
